Welcome To Class

Welcome To Ms. Tomasko's First Grade Class

Our classroom is where we will spend a lot of time this year.  I have created a group setting with our desk arrangement.  There will be six students at each table with rotating table captains each week.  The table captain will be responsible for making sure all supplies are kept in the center of the table.  They also are responsible for ensuring the chairs are stacked at the end of the day and the area is kept clean throughout the day.

I believe that every student has the ability to learn.  I expect each student to arrive at school ready to work.  Each day we will have time set aside for centers.  Centers are stations where students work in groups of two to help reinforce what we have learned in class.  Technology will also be used extensively in class.  Computer based learning programs such as Ticket To Read, and V-math are also available for students to work on at home.  Each night students will have homework to complete.  The students planners are required to be signed nightly.

There are a lot of fun activities planned for this year.   First grade students will be attending field trips to Flamingo Gardens, Calypso Cove, and one other location not yet determined.  We will be having in class activities for Halloween, Thanksgiving, The Winter Holidays, Valentines Day, and the One Hundredth Day of School.  I will also need parent volunteers for field trips and in class activities.
